What does “movement” mean to you? In our Celebration of Movement Brunch Series it means connectivity, embodiment, integrity, and playfulness.

Madeleine Reber will lead a 2-hour workshop in Integrative Movement and Bartenieff Fundamentals. Think of it as Yoga, meets Free Form Dance, meets Improv, meets Thai Chi. Through guided somatic experience, structured forms and exercises (on the floor, standing, traveling), and improvisational exploration, we will practice essential developmental patterns that underpin efficient, fluid movement.

1 hour brunch will follow inspired by the same themes found in our movement practice! This is a three-part series; attend all sessions or just the one that speaks to you. NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY!

Session 1: Breath & Core-Distal Patterns - We begin by awakening the senses and breath, and bringing awareness to the whole, connected body. Supported by patterns integral to human development, we progress to discover the connection between our core and our distal edges, the ability to reach articulately out into the world from a strong and lively center. 

MADELEINE REBER, MFA, CLMA

Madeleine Reber is a dance educator, choreographer, and Certified Laban Movement Analyst, as well as Artistic Director of SALTY LARK DANCE. Reber has been teaching dance and movement at colleges and universities, and in the professional dance community for over fifteen years. She regularly teaches workshops in Integrative Movement, modern release technique, and contact improvisation in the Chicago area and around the Midwest. She enjoys teaching students of all levels of experience – from novice to professional! Her knowledge of Laban/Bartenieff work, along with extensive experience in somatics and diverse movement practices, allow her to convey a deeply embodied and clear conceptual understanding of the body in movement. Her choreography has been produced by: Links Hall; Minnesota Fringe Festival; Midwest RAD fest; Core Project Chicago; Milwaukee Fringe; The Kitchen Columbus; Columbia College Chicago; North Carolina Dance Alliance; and The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events, among others. Reber has served on the dance and theatre faculties of East Carolina University, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Illinois State University. In Chicago she has also taught at Columbia College, DePaul University, and Dovetail Studios. She is currently adjunct faculty at the Embodied Education Institute Chicago.

Join us as we celebrate Red, White & Boom with a “Cook-In”! Watch the fireworks at our public a-la-carte dining event with a menu inspired by all of our favorite cookout foods. Think of it as a Taco Tuesday, but on a Wednesday.

With our unobstructed view of the fireworks, The Kitchen makes for the perfect spot to enjoy the celebration while you eat delicious food and sip on festive cocktails. Walk in, order off the menu written on the chalkboard, deliver your ticket to The Kitchen, and we will bring your food out hot & fresh.

Please note our signature Participatory Dining Experiences are guided, experiential, and collaborative meal preparation and dining events. They are not a cooking class and you will not be taught techniques or how to prepare a full meal. Instead, you and 4-6 other guests will be responsible for preparing one recipe or course together in our communal kitchen before sitting down to enjoy your well-deserved meal. All cooking ability levels are welcome as our staff will guide you through basic safety and preparation instructions.

Whether it's beer, wine, or spirits, there are an overwhelming number of options, and it can be a challenge to figure out what you might enjoy when you are flying blind. To help with this we're launching "Behind the Bar" - an educational tasting series where we bring in some of our favorite Bartenders/professional drinkers to guide us through a selection and provide some knowledge along the way. It's basically school for booze, which is much more fun than normal school, since you get to drink as you go. 


Cost includes expert instruction, 5 tasting pours (2 oz each) and light appetizers.
