This month, for Behind the Bar, we're moving West to Sonoma County, California. While Napa has gotten the lion's share of attention recently, Sonoma County has a longer history of growing grapes and making wine, and still has a more diverse range of wines and micro-climates to explore. Also, it's just beautiful. Join us as we taste through some of the varietals that Sonoma is best known for and highlight a few producers with a real history and heritage in the county.

Get relaxed with Charles Gibson and then enjoy a traditional Thai meal...

Charles  will lead you through the workshop, during which you will learn the history and intention of Thai yoga massage. Massage will help increase flexibility, relieve stress and give a greater awareness of body and mind.  Techniques used will work the top of the head to the bottom of the feet.  At the end, you will learn enough to work on your partner for a twenty minute massage.  Following the session you will be treated to delicious and healthy Thai-inspired brunch to cap off a perfect morning.

Charles has been a fitness professional for over 20 years.  Group instructor, personal trainer and track and field coach He leads a active lifestyle and in his spare time enjoys traveling, dancing and volunteering. It was in the Marine Corps reserve that he discovered his love for fitness. 
Charles attended his first yoga class nine years ago and enjoyed the practice.  It was the mental and physical combination that he loved.  A few months later he was introduced to Thai yoga massage, it had a profound effect on his training philosophy. He began studying and practicing this form of bodywork four years ago.  He has completed his level 1 -3 at the Lotus Palm school in Montreal.

Don’t have someone to attend with? No problem! Sign up as a single and we will pair you with someone for the workshop.

Join us for a Star Wars inspired 1-Day spring break camp. March 28th from 8:30am-12:30pm for ages 8-12.

CAMP ACTIVITIES

Droids

Jedi Master Durobo will lead you through a droid dissection to identify possible energy sources. Padawan will then build their own droids that will move freely and light up. To finish the droid section, the Jedi’s in training will decorate their own BB-8 Droid Cupcake. Eat now or later!

The Force

Students experiment with attraction and repulsion through magnet and electromagnetic forces. As a test of The Force, Padawan create a magnetic motor which will cause a screw to spin by itself.

Going Lightspeed

As Hans Solo said, “Watch the thrust. We’re going out of here at Lightspeed”. Jedi Master Durobo continues the camp with a bottle rocket and launch pad demonstration.

Craftivities

To finish the day, students build their very own lightsaber and craft a Hans Solo style marshmallow launcher.

Whether it's beer, wine, or spirits, there are an overwhelming number of options, and it can be a challenge to figure out what you might enjoy when you are flying blind. To help with this we're launching "Behind the Bar" - an educational tasting series where we bring in some of our favorite Bartenders/professional drinkers to guide us through a selection and provide some knowledge along the way. It's basically school for booze, which is much more fun than normal school, since you get to drink as you go. 

Join Matt Connor from Vanguard Wines - Certified Sommelier, Certified Specialist of Wine (and former bartender at the Refectory, amongst others) as we taste through the wines and learn about the history, grapes, and regions that make the wine what it is.

This month, there's a bit of a shift in the Behind the Bar program! Continuing with our goal of providing an accessible wine education, we've got Fabio Gonzalez, a winemaker from Ribera Sacra in Northern Spain, in town to really dive deep into his family's winery. Ribera Sacra is one of the most fascinating wine regions in the world - steep ancient terraces winding their way alongside the river Sil. Algeuira focuses on native varietals from Ribera Sacra, all grown on their estate using Biodynamic methods. Fabio and his family are putting out some amazing wines that reflect the unique terruno of their region. Please join us, and try 6 wines, paired with some small bites.

8:30am | Acids and Bases

Students mix various solids and liquids to discover the physical changes & chemical reactions of each combination. Next, they will learn about the Red Cabbage Indicator and how to detect pH levels using the vegetable.

9:30am | Fire Demos

Watch as a flame dances in a jar and test the melting point of various sugars. Lastly, make a snake out of powdered sugar, baking soda, and rubbing alcohol. Watch as the snake emerges from the fire and grows with the ashes.

10am | Bake a Cake with Chemistry

Forget everything you know about baking a cake! In this activity, students will learn how baking powder reacts to sugars and proteins to make a fluffy cake. After the cake is made, try your hand at decorating!

11am | Playing with Your Food

Explore chemical reactions with magic milk and whipped cream crumbles. To finish the day, students create their very own marshmallow launchers. Take them outside and test how far your marshmallow goes!

Taco Tuesday: Under the Sea Inspired in partnership with The Pleasure Guild

Our weekly Taco Tuesday night features unique taco themes. We serve up everything from mexican to italian to southern BBQ inspired tacos. The menu is served a la cart and features specialty cocktail selections, beers and wines that pair with the nights theme.

No reservation needed. However, if you are planning a celebration, Taco Tuesday is a great place to gather a large group for a birthday party, happy hour or going away party.  We have several party packages available, or you may customize your own. Your night will start with our beautiful cheese and charcuterie board which will also feature a champagne pairing display to include some of the most unique foods to pair champagne with, you'll have to be there to experience it!  We will delight you with a glass of Remi Leroy Brut Nature NV. You will then work together to create the following dinner menu which has been expertly paired with a variety of champagnes.

Thai Yoga Massage Workshop and Brunch with Charles Gibson

Get relaxed with Charles Gibson and then enjoy a traditional Thai meal...

Charles  will lead you through the workshop, during which you will learn the history and intention of Thai yoga massage. Massage will help increase flexibility, relieve stress and give a greater awareness of body and mind.  Techniques used will work the top of the head to the bottom of the feet.  You will use our hands, elbows, feet and knees to contact with our partners with Metta love and kindness. At the end, you will learn enough to work on your partner for a twenty minute massage.  Following the session you will be treated to delicious and healthy Thai-inspired brunch to cap off a perfect morning.

Charles has been a fitness professional for over 20 years.  Group instructor, personal trainer and track and field coach He leads a active lifestyle and in his spare time enjoys traveling, dancing and volunteering. It was in the Marine Corps reserve that he discovered his love for fitness. 
Charles attended his first yoga class nine years ago and enjoyed the practice.  It was the mental and physical combination that he loved.  A few months later he was introduced to Thai yoga massage, it had a profound effect on his training philosophy. He began studying and practicing this form of bodywork four years ago.  He has completed his level 1 -3 at the Lotus Palm school in Montreal.

Don’t have someone to attend with? No problem! Sign up as a single and we will pair you with someone for the workshop.
